Vacca Research The Complete Vacuum Delivery Training Program

Introduction to the Workshops

Learn, understand and practise the key concepts required for successful vacuum delivery through the Vacca Research Training Workshops.

Workshop Module: Master Class In Vacuum-assisted Delivery (vacuum extraction)
Learning objectives: After completing the Online and Hands-on Workshop on vacuum extraction, participants will be better able to:
  • Recognise the indications and contraindications for vacuum delivery and to classify the indications into lower and higher risk groups
  • Evaluate key obstetric factors in order to select patients for whom vacuum delivery is appropriate
  • Understand and practise the procedural steps and technique for non-rotational and rotational vacuum extraction
  • Establish safety measure for vacuum extraction that may be instituted prior to, during and following the procedure

What do the Workshops include?

A workshop of vacuum delivery comprises on-line and hands-on components. The online workshop modules are designed to provide participants with the means of acquiring the knowledge and theoretical skills essential for vacuum delivery prior to attending the hands-on workshop. This will allow the hands-on workshop to focus more effectively on the practical aspects of vacuum extraction technique. For practical and logistical purposes, each hands-on workshop group should contain 10 to 12 participants. If there are more than this number, additional hands-on sessions would be preferable.

Accreditation

After completing all modules of the workshop participants will be issued with a Certificate of Completion. This certification may be required for accreditation purposes.
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) has accredited the workshop for 5 PR & CRM points. However the College stipulates that Fellows must complete all components of the workshop.

What are the components of a workshop?

There are four main steps to complete in a workshop; three are online and one is hands-on. The complete workshop program comprises a Pre-Test, Self-Paced Revision, a Hands-On Workshop and a Post-Test. A Workshop runs for approximately 8 weeks. It is a requirement that you complete in sequence all stages of the workshop to receive the Certificate of Completion.

STEP 1: Complete the online Pre-Test

Note: Do not be to concerned with how you score on the Pre-Test, this test is only used to establish your skill level and identify topics that may need revision prior to the hands-on workshop.

The Pre-Test is used to establish your knowledge base about vacuum-assisted delivery and identify topics that may need revision prior to the hands-on workshop. The Pre-Test is an online questionnaire comprised of 20 interactive questions each of 5 parts. You will need approximately 30 minutes to complete the Pre-Test. All results are anonymous.

STEP 2: Continue with online Self-Paced Revision

When you have submitted the Pre-Test you may continue with Self-Paced Revision targeting any problem areas in preparation for the hands on workshop. You may redo any of the questions as many times as you want. Helpful feedback is also provided with each question. Additional reading material is also available from the Vacca Research website Clinicians Resources page.

STEP 3: Attend the Hands-on Workshop

Attend the hands-on workshop session to combine your knowledge with practical training. The hands-on sessions focus on technical aspects required for successful vacuum delivery. Practical skills are demonstrated and participants train on specifically designed manikins in differing clinical scenarios and complexity.

STEP 4: Complete the online Post-Test

Complete the Post-Test to conclude the workshop training program. You are required to complete all sections of the workshop to receive the certificate of completion.

Certificate of Completion

Upon completion of all the modules you will be issued with a Certificate of Completion. This workshop certification may be required for accreditation purposes. Be sure to open and print a copy of your Certificate for your records.

Evaluation of the workshop

Please give us your Feedback. Your comments are an important part of the training workshop. We request that you fill in the online Evaluation Survey for our records and future improvements. A link to the evaluation survey can be found on your workshop Home Page. See help
